Mike Tyson Everyone has an opinion about Mike, most are not good. When I got the call from the NYTimes Magazine that they wanted me to photograph Mike Tyson, my first thoughts were of self preservation. It so happened that the call in when I was on set photographing David Blaine, also for the Times [...]

When I was growing up near Rochester NY, Kodak was a huge high tech goliath of a company. They had the brains, the science and the manufacturing where with all to do pretty much anything that could be imagined. Guess what they dreamed up? The digital camera. Yes, that is correct, Kodak invented the digital [...]

Having been in LA 4 years this fall, I was thinking about how I feel about it, and how it has changed me. LA is the land of possiblity, anything can happen here. People do things here just for the fun of it. There is this sort of ripe freshness to the place that makes [...]

by David on 24. Aug, 2011 in blog, Business of Photography, Lifestyle, Stills
The Problem: An addictive need for my kind of subjects to photograph. The Qualifyer: Model agencies, Craig’s List, street casting, none of these are working too well. “Photograph what you love”. Sally Mann. “Love what you photograph” Me. Sally Mann is a genius artist. I am a successful commercial photographer. She gets to chose what she photographs. I get to chose how I feel about what I am photographing. Either way works. Related Posts:KamikazeThe ReelMichelleImages: Randy Bad w/headphones in his carMOHAVE PHOTOS

We flew in to NY weds on my favorite UA LAX-JFK flight (note, Charlotte Gainsbourg and posse in 1st class) for meetings and a quick editorial short. I love this town. There is nothing sexier than downtown Manhattan on a sunny day in May. Everybody is flirty, and everybody is dressed. Los Angeles is a [...]

Call it an itch, call it an irritation, but I am not feeling the love from my Canons these days. I am just really over it with the bad slow autofocus, the goofy plastic feeling bodies and the menus that must been designed by some dumb dumb washed out scientist. Sometimes we just need to [...]
